Cake for Karis

Another recommendation - my mother in laws friend contacted me with her sisters details… she wanted a cake for her little girl who would be 5.  After chatting with her, we decided that anything pink and girl would be perfect so after a little planning this is what I came up with!
A two tier vanilla sponge covered and filled with buttercream, then covered with a thin layer of white fondant as the base.  For the bottom layer, I mixed up various shades of pink and cut into strips then layered up around the cake to give a swirl effect.  The top tier was covered with a thin layer of pink fondant then I added spots of various shades.
Once the cake was in position, I rolled up balls in alternating colours and positioned then around the base of both cakes.
As a finishing touch, I hand piped the number 5 onto all of the spots then made up some fondant stars to spell out 'Karis'.

Snowman Cake

This was made as our family christmas cake.  I asked my daughter what she thought we should have and she said 'Mummy we must have a snowman cake!' … so here he is!!
As the children are not fans of fruit cake, I just made a sponge cake for this but could easily adapt to use any cake if desired.
I baked a large rectangle sponge then cut and shaped accordingly.  His head and body were covered seperately then I used a kebab stick in his body to secure his head!
He was decorated with fondant then I finished him off with a top hat!
He sat on our table all over christmas because nobody wanted to cut into him because he was so cute!

Kerry's Cake

Another mini cake which I only intended to add a few flowers to… but as you can see I got a bit carried away!  But the effect was really quite special so I'm glad I went nuts!!
The sponge was just a simple vanilla covered and filled with buttercream covered with a thin layer of white fondant.  I then mixed up a few different shades of pink then started cutting out flowers in varying sizes and layering over the cake.
I also made a round box up for the cake to be presented in, which made it look a little like a hat in the end, which added to the appeal and uniqueness of my gift!
Needless to say, my friend Kerry was really pleased with her cake!

Golf Cake

This order came through my friend Linda.  Her son's girlfriend was so impressed with his birthday cake (the Ipswich Town football cake) that she passed my number to her mum who wanted a cake for her sisters 60th birthday!
As her sister was a keen golfer, I suggested this as a theme for the cake.
I made a vanilla sponge filled and covered with vanilla buttercream.  Then a thin layer of white fondant as a base.  I cut out the shape of the 60 and added this then covered with a thin layer of green fondant to give the effect of indentations in the cake.  I built up a sandbank in and around the 6 with light brown fondant then mixed some blue royal icing to make the pond.
The sides of the cake were decorated to give the effect of the whole golf course and the little extras (golf bag with clubs, ball and tees, flag and of course the duck!!) were made from FIMO.

Cello Cake

This order came from my advert in one of our local shops.  Gentleman required a Cello cake for his daughter's 18th birthday.
For the cake I made a chocolate sponge and cut to shape, then filled and covered with buttercream before covering in a layer of white and chocolate fondant to give the wood grain effect for the main body of the cello.
Once the instrument was covered in the wood grain effect fondant, I went about recreating the detail using cocktail sticks covered in dark brown fondant for the string componants which were gently pushed through the top of the cello.  The strings were made up of finely rolled fondant covered with gold edible glitter and gently wrapped around the top of the cello.
My customer returned the cake board and was full of compliments saying that the cake was delicious!!

Arsenal Cake

Another order - a friend of my mother in law asked if I could make a cake for her nephew Michael who will be 13.  He is an Arsenal fan and loves football!
For the cake, I made a chocolate sponge which was filled with buttercream.  I then covered the cake with a layer of chocolate fondant before finally adding a thin layer of the red and white fondant.
I started with the football carefully adding black pentagons to the the white hexagons around the shape of the ball.  The shirt was then covered in the red adding the white for the sleeves.
The badge was made up using thin strips of coloured fondant then adding the cannon and the lettering.  I am really pleased with how the badge came out, it really adds the finishing touch to the cake!!

Barbie Cake for Jessica

I made this cake for my daughter Jessica's birthday, she is going through the 'I LOVE BARBIE' phase so I was more than happy to give this cake a try!!
I made 3 sponge cakes in ascending sizes which were sandwiched with pink (naturally!!) buttercream and carved to create the base of the dress.
This was then covered with a layer of white fondant then built up further with a selection of different pinks and lilacs to give the layered effect.
I then went mad with glitter and created various sizes and colours of flowers for the main body of the dress.  I then wrapped Barbie in clingfilm and carefully pushed her into the cake, building up a layer of fondant over her torso to create the bodice.
Jess was over the moon with her cake - even happier that she has ended up with another Barbie to add to her ever growing collection of dolls!  Looks like I'll be making one for my niece too...!!
