This order came through my friend Linda. Her son's girlfriend was so impressed with his birthday cake (the Ipswich Town football cake) that she passed my number to her mum who wanted a cake for her sisters 60th birthday!
As her sister was a keen golfer, I suggested this as a theme for the cake.
I made a vanilla sponge filled and covered with vanilla buttercream. Then a thin layer of white fondant as a base. I cut out the shape of the 60 and added this then covered with a thin layer of green fondant to give the effect of indentations in the cake. I built up a sandbank in and around the 6 with light brown fondant then mixed some blue royal icing to make the pond.
| The sides of the cake were decorated to give the effect of the whole golf course and the little extras (golf bag with clubs, ball and tees, flag and of course the duck!!) were made from FIMO. |
