This cake was made for my sister in law who we arranged a surprise baby shower for! I had been keen to try a 2-tier cake and this was the perfect opportunity so the creative juices began to flow! I had the idea of basing the cake on a nursery rhyme and Hey Diddle Diddle seemed like the perfect challenge!
| For this cake, I baked 3 vanilla sponge cakes the smaller being just 5 inches across. This was halved and sandwiched with vanilla buttercream then covered with a thin later of white fondant then blue for the night sky. The stars were punched out and refilled with white fondant. The base cake was sandwiched with strawberry jam and buttercream then I decided to try some baby coloured fondant to make up a quilt effect. The characters were all hand-made by me using FIMO. |
