Springtime Wedding Cake

A friend from the pre-school my children attend asked if I could make the wedding cake for her brother in law.  She had originally planned to make the cake herself but as the wedding day approached, she started to panic so asked me for help to which I was really excited and more than happy to assist!  We discussed the theme which was 'Spring time colours and flowers'.  I came up with a few ideas and suggestions incorporating the colours of the bridesmaid's dresses and flowers then set off to work!
I started baking the vanilla sponges and filled with a thin layer of sieved strawberry jam and vanilla buttercream - then covered the cake with buttercream and left over night to chill in the fridge.
I then covered with a layer of white fondant before mixing the pale green and yellow.  Once the cakes were covered in the base colours, I began adding the pink daisies then continued to work my way around the cakes adding various sizes and colours of flowers and leaves.
For the finising touches, I piped yellow royal icing into the centre of every flower.

Mothers Day Cake

This Mothers Day Cake created for an old work colleague after he had seen some of my previous creations!  I was asked to recreated the Boofle dog which I think I have done quite successfully!
The cake was a 2 tier 7" sponge cake filled with strawberry jam and buttercream.  This was covered with a layer of buttercream then a layer of white fondant.
The dog was build up using a blend of chocolate and white fondant.  I then mixed up a selection of pastel coloured fondants to create a patchwork effect.
As I didn't have room to add any writing on the top of the cake, I decided to write in royal icing 'Happy Mothers Day!x' on the top white edge of the cake, which I'm sure my friend will be more than happy with!

Toy Story Cake

This cake was made for my son Charley's 3rd birthday!  As you can see, the Buzz and Woody dolls were not created by me - on this occasion I cheated and used some of Charley's toys to add to the fun of the cake!
This is a 2 tier cake - the bottom tier being a 3 layer vanilla sponge filled with strawberry jam and vanilla buttercream.  The top was baked in a cereal bowl to give the rounded effect.
The cakes were then covered first in a layer of buttercream, followed by a thin layer of white fondant.  The top cake was then covered in blue fondant adding stars and the moon for Buzz to stand on.  The bottom layer was covered with another layer of white then chocolate fondant added in to give the cowhide effect.  I then added mini smarties around the bases to add some colour.
As we had to make the cake last over a weekend of birthday parties, we had the top layer one day then I made a sherriffs badge and painted it with gold edible glitter for the top of the bottom cake, which we had for the next day!

Manchester City Cake

This was an order from my next door neighbour for a friend who's partner is a huge Manchester City Fan and it was his 50th birthday!
As with my previous football shirt cakes, I used a large rectangle tin for the main cake and a cereal bowl for the football.  The cake was a vanilla sponge filled a layer of strawberry jam and buttercream, covered with buttercream then a layer of white fondant as the base.  I then coloured some more fondant and covered the cake again.
The football effect was created using hexagon and pentagon shaped pieces of fondant as the base then I went about recreating the Manchester City logo from fondant.  This was left over night to firm then painted with a solution of glycerine and edible glitter for the golden effect.
The cake was a success and had many photos taken of it!!

Lizzy's Barbie Cake

After coming to my daughter Jessica's birthday and seeing her Barbie cake, Lizzy had put her request in for a Barbie cake straight away!!
I tackled this cake slightly differently from my first 'dolly' cake as I found that on my previous attempt, I had to cut so much cake away to get the shape of the dress it was too wasteful.
I baked one large square cake then used two sets of Victoria sponge tins for the rest.  I only had to carve a very small amount away and found that by building up with fondant didn't mean there was so much bunching around the top of the dress, which looks so much smoother than my first attempt.
I covered the square base in a thick layer of white fondant then covered in various sizes and colours of flowers.  The dress was also covered in a layer of white then built up in panels to create a creased effect on the top of the dress.
The cake was a hit with Lizzy's friends!  Fingers crossed for a few more orders…!!!

Lola's Fairy Cake

Another reccomendation from a friend of my mother in law… wanted a cake for her little girl Lola who would be 3 and loves all things pink and fairy like!!
This cake was a large rectangle vanilla sponge covered with vanilla buttercream and white fondant for the base.  I then added sections and layered up to form the picture of the fairy.
The sides of the cake were all covered with pink fondant layered with various sized white fondant stars but the finishing touches with the glittery stars spelling Lola's name and the '3' on the fairy's wand really make this cake totally unique!
Lola's Mummy runs a nursery which she wanted this cake for, so hopefully I may get a few more orders on the back of this cake!!!

Cake for Mia

A mini cake made as a little gift for my friend Claire's little girl Mia who has just turned 1!
I knew she would have a birthday cake but I couldn't resist making a teeny tiny cake for a teeny tiny person!!
I based this idea on the baby shower cake made for my sister in law as I used two shaped tins, the round and a star using vanilla sponge filled with buttercream covered in pink and white fondant alternating the colours by adding the stars.
And for the finishing touch, I wrote 'Mia' on the top in stars x x x

There is only one word to sum up this cake and that is CUTE!!!x x x
